jcasman sends along this clip from PCWorld: "ActiveState has added three open source mathematics libraries to its ActivePython Python distribution that might interest financial and scientific computing markets, the company announced Thursday. The packages are being added, in part, to anticipate the demand that may arise from new proposed rules for the US financial community brought about by the US Securities and Exchange Commission... In April, the government agency posted a set of proposed rules for handling asset-backed securities that called for financial firms to disclose, along with their prospectus filings, the source code of the programs that generated the filings, as rendered in Python. The government agency will be accepting input about the proposed rule until August 2. The three libraries that are being added to the ActivePython package are NumPy, SciPy, and matplotlib."pa href="http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fdevelopers.slashdot.org% 2Fstory%2F10%2F06%2F25%2F1433248%2FFinance-Scientific-Users-Get-ActivePython-Updates" target="_blank" title="Share on Facebook"img src="http://a.fsdn.com/sd/facebook_icon_large.png"/a a href="http://twitter.com/home?status=Finance%2C+Scientific+Users+Get+Active Python+Updates%3A+http%3A%2F%2Fbit.ly%2FbQ3e67" target="_blank" title="Share on Twitter"img src="http://a.fsdn.com/sd/twitter_icon_large.png"/a/ppa href="http://developers.slashdot.org/story/10/06/25/1433248/Finance-Scientific-Users-Get-ActivePython-Updates?from=rss"Read more of this story/a at Slashdot./p pa href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/3EIXcBMlQNBAuk0i1ewxExLjAPc/0/da"img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/3EIXcBMlQNBAuk0i1ewxExLjAPc/0/di" border="0" ismap="true"/img/abr/ a href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/3EIXcBMlQNBAuk0i1ewxExLjAPc/1/da"img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/3EIXcBMlQNBAuk0i1ewxExLjAPc/1/di" border="0" ismap="true"/img/a/pimg src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/Slashdot/slashdotDevelopers/~4/PxhS29Z72-I" height="1" width="1"/
